There's no pain so exquisite as tender loss:

A damaged soul now viewed as dross.

Rejected, loud and clear like glass

Once stained, now shattered: the test unpassed.

Unclean, unworthy of gentle praise;

Admiration nor affection come his way

from the one whose heart he thought he had.

A heart now deeply pierced, O man

you strove to be the best you could!

You fought the battles, your ground you've stood.

Yet, to nothing it amounts today

For all is lost: she's gone away.

With nothing to feel, nothing to say

The wounded sinner presses on.

Rely more fully on the Lord:

Live by his word, not by your sword.
