What could I do if I were him

The man who I wanted to be?

A man who was holy, committed and firm,

A man who looked and could see.

But not only see: he would act with his might

unfailingly.

I would give up the world to stand as that man,

to rise up and really believe.

What must one do to overcome man—

to fight what comes naturally—

that man within all who refuses to yield

and lives only selfishly?

For inside the war never approaches an end.

Depressingly,

No matter the good I do or I feel

The sinner still wins victories.

But spiritual knowledge confirms this great truth:

Jesus Christ understands me.

He sees me as not only the things that I do

But who inside I yearn to be.

He sends me his power to steadily grow.

Increasingly

becoming more holy, committed and firm:

The man who He knows I can be.
