Am I an empty present?

A question for the soul.

Am I wrapped with ribbons tightly curled?

Or paper crisp and gold?

Do I appear from the outside

to hold great worth within?

Do I flatter my conscience? which is to lie.

And lying is a sin.

Am I trying so hard to seem

like something I am not,

to fit in with or rise above

the group to which I ought

to belong? well here's a truth,

ironic, deep and sad:

the more I lie to appear so good

the more I become bad.

Your present is to the Saviour

who knows your entire soul.

No amount of string or paper thin

Will ever make you whole.

You are always you

and I am always me.

Although we never have perfection,

We can have honesty.

And to fully access our Saviour's grace

that's all we really need.
