Chapter 78: Guidance

"And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit."

Doctrine and Covnenants 11:12

A good and very busy week come and gone. We had exchanges with the Paisley Zone Leaders, had Scotland South Area Conference, and it was my Mom's birthday! It was great to be able to spend some time talking with her; I am really looking forward to seeing her again soon along with all of my family. I've grown a lot in my love and appreciation for my Mom during my mission, and I hope that I can always be someone that she can be proud of.

It's always neat to travel around to visit different places for exchanges and this week, I was able to go with Elder Draney to a place called Greenock in Paisley Zone to work with the Elders there. Ever since we both came into the mission, I've wanted to be able to serve with or have an exchange with Elder Draney and it was just great. He's a wonderful friend. The exchange went really well and we were able to do some really great work with the Elders and help them get their area going a bit.

Throughout the day I noticed something different than what I have normally experienced as a missionary. While we were walking around talking with people, I would get very specific impressions to talk to different people I would see or to knock on doors we would pass. Normally when I've been out harvesting on the streets, I just try and stop everyone, which I still was doing, but I've never really looked at someone and just felt like I needed to talk to them right at that moment.

The first time it happened we were walking on a very empty street trying to find the address of a less-active member of the branch when we passed a very old car with a younger guy sitting inside. As soon as I passed him I got a very strong feeling to go and knock on his car window to talk with him. Well, I did, which is something I never would do, and I struck up a conversation with him. He told me that he recognized us and knew quite a bit about our church, but that he wasn't really interested in learning more. I had a great chat with him though and we were both laughing by the end of it; I feel blessed to have been guided to have had that experience with him.

The second time it happened was near the end of the day. We were all done and heading back to the car to drive home for the evening, when we passed a door I felt very strongly that we needed to knock on. I told Elder Draney and asked him to come with me and we went and knocked on this door which was opened by a lot of younger adults. Some of them were pretty wild and apparently had seen us walking around town all day and we had a good chat with them, slowly most of them left and went back to what they were doing, all except the quieter man who had originally opened the door in the first place. He stepped outside and somewhat closed the door and we had a really beautiful conversation with him about God and our purpose in life and he gave us his number so he could learn more.

If we are listening, I believe that God can and will guide us in ways we never would've expected. He will always lead us to do good and to help others, regardless of their response.

If we trust God, we will be led, and if we are led by God, we will never fail.

Life is good.

God is wise.
